Wine, Cheese and the open sea

Been a while since my last update so here’s the latest!

A couple of weeks ago I had a fun evening at a wine & cheese tasting event where we got to try about 40 different wines and various cheeses after uni. It’s a shame it was a Wednesday because it would have been a lot more fun without having to go to the lab the next morning! It only cost about £7-8 too so it was pretty good value.

Not much else happened after that until this Easter weekend. Rhiannon from the lab kindly invited me and 8 others to join her, her brother, and her mum on their 52 ft catamaran on a 4 day trip around Moreton Bay and Moreton Island from Good Friday to Easter Monday. It was an incredible trip, so I have to say thank you very much to the three of them for inviting us and putting up with us! On the first day we climbed the worlds biggest sand dune, then after admiring the view, we rolled down the side back down to the beach. On the second day we moved further north along Moreton Island and busied ourselves with “grown-up sand castles” by daming and rerouting a small freshwater creek that ran from the inner island to the sea (causing all sorts of havoc for the 4×4’s driving along the beach!). On the third day we popped back to the mainland to drop 3 people off and resupply the food and alcohol (and get fish & chips for lunch) before heading back out to Moreton Island in yet a different area. Then on the final day we had a lazy morning before coming back to the marina and cleaning out the boat. The whole trip was punctuated with sightings of giant turtles, seeing dolphins (who were utterly brilliant and came within 2-3 metres of the boat), fishing (fairly unsuccessfully), cooking, drinking, swimming, and star gazing. All in all it was absolutely incredible.

I managed to take a few photos which can be found here. I will try and get copies of those taken by everyone else as they will be a bit more varied.

That’s about it for now. Hopefully having a One Tree Hill marathon this coming weekend to see about 12 episodes of the fifth series and get back up to date with it. Should be good. Hope everybody is well, if you haven’t heard from me lately then send me a message or an email and I’ll say hi!
